Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Azure Infrastructure & Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Contractor to support
M&A-driven infrastructure initiatives. The role involves providing
Azure and VDI support across enterprise-scale, hybrid, and multi-location environments.
The contractor will play a key role in
on-premises to Azure migrations, including environment assessments, system builds, file server migrations, and cutover activities. Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential due to frequent interaction with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Mandatory Skills
- Hands-on experience with Nerdio OR Azure File Sync
- Strong Azure Infrastructure and AVD expertise
Soft Responsibilities
- Adhere to Microsoft Well-Architected Framework and Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF) standards.
- Follow established cloud engineering and deployment standards.
- Collaborate with project managers, application teams, and stakeholders to define requirements and timelines.
- Coordinate with internal teams for file services migration activities.
- Assist in procuring Azure resources such as servers, quotas, security groups, and related components.
- Partner with DBA contractors for database-related project needs.
- Work closely with other contractors for AVD transition and support activities.
- Maintain clear, proactive, and professional communication across teams.
Technical Responsibilities
- Perform file server migration analysis.
- Execute file server migrations using Azure File Sync and Robocopy.
- Create and manage AVD images, partnering with application owners for installations and validations.
- Configure and deploy AVD host pools, including autoscaling using Nerdio.
- Assign and manage security groups for line-of-business application access.
- Execute cutover activities for file and AVD resources during maintenance windows (nights and weekends).
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required
Certifications (Mandatory)
- AZ-104: Azure Administrator Associate
- AZ-140: Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty
Technical Expertise
- Experience managing large-scale AVD environments (500+ users).
- Strong experience migrating workloads from on-premises to Azure (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).
- Hands-on knowledge of Entra ID (Azure AD) and Active Directory for identity and access provisioning.
- Solid understanding of Azure Networking (VNETs, Subnets, NSGs).
- Experience with Azure Backup and Azure Compute Galleries for AVD image management.
- Ability and willingness to work frequent nights and weekends for migration cutovers.
Nice to Have
- Strong experience with Azure File Sync (Storage Sync Services) and Robocopy.
- Experience using PowerShell and Ansible for automation and configuration management.
- Nerdio Certifications (NME-100, NME-200).
- Familiarity with enterprise landing zone deployments using Microsoft Well-Architected Framework.
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
