Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Senior Azure Infrastructure & AVD Engineer to support Azure infrastructure and VDI operations, primarily during
Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) initiatives. The role involves managing enterprise-scale, multi-location, hybrid environments and executing on-premises to Azure migration activities.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with
Azure,
AVD, and
file server migrations, along with mandatory expertise in
Nerdio or Azure File Sync. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work during off-hours for cutover activities are essential.

Key Responsibilities
Soft / Functional Responsibilities
- Adhere to cloud engineering best practices, including Microsoft Well-Architected Framework and Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF).
- Follow established standards for cloud deployments.
- Collaborate with project managers, application teams, and stakeholders to define project requirements and timelines.
- Coordinate with internal teams for file service migrations.
- Work with internal teams to procure required resources such as servers, quotas, security groups, and related infrastructure.
- Partner with other contractors for:
- Database administration (DBA) project requirements.
- Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) transition and ongoing support activities.
Technical Responsibilities
- Perform file server migration analysis and planning.
- Execute file server migrations using Azure File Sync and Robocopy.
- Create and manage AVD images, working closely with application owners for application installations.
- Configure and deploy AVD host pools, including autoscaling using Nerdio.
- Assign security groups to ensure proper access to line-of-business applications.
- Execute cutover activities for file services and AVD resources during scheduled maintenance windows (nights and weekends).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
Certifications (Mandatory)
- AZ-104: Azure Administrator Associate
- AZ-140: Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty
Technical & Functional Skills
- Proven experience managing large-scale Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments (500+ users).
- Strong experience migrating workloads from on-premises environments to Azure IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS.
- Hands-on experience with Entra ID (Azure AD) and Active Directory for identity and access management.
- Solid understanding of Azure networking, including VNETs, subnets, NSGs, and related components.
- Experience managing Azure Backup and Azure Compute Galleries for AVD image lifecycle management.
- Ability and willingness to work frequent nights and weekends to support migration and cutover activities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Advanced experience with Azure File Sync (Storage Sync Services) and Robocopy.
- Experience with automation and configuration tools such as PowerShell and Ansible.
- Nerdio Certifications (NME-100, NME-200).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Well-Architected Framework for enterprise landing zone deployments.
- Experience working in Agile team environments.
